Nigeria Unveils Service-Wise GPT to Revolutionize Public Service with AI

Nigeria has leaped into the future by introducing Service-Wise GPT, an intelligent AI companion built to transform how public servants actually work. At the Global Government Summit 2025 in Singapore, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, laid out a compelling vision of how this tool will simplify governance in practical, tangible ways.

Service-Wise GPT is currently in its beta version, and is designed to put the power of critical government knowledge like Public Service Rules, statutory instruments, regulations, and operational guidelines at civil servants’ fingertips. This AI tool aims to make information retrieval seamless without having to scroll through outdated intranets or search through endless thick binders. And the innovation hasn’t stopped there. Once fully live, the platform promises to automate policy drafting, craft official memos, and assist with real-time policy research. The goal has been to liberate civil servants from repetitive paperwork so they can focus on meaningful decision-making.

A 2025 research has revealed that about 73 percent of users saved between 2 to 3 hours every day, and remarkably, 90 percent of users would recommend the tool for its efficiency and ease of use. Reclaiming those hours will help spend more time tackling public needs instead of sifting through red tape.

Mrs. Walson made it clear that Service-Wise GPT reflects the Buhari administration’s commitment to technology-led governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. This isn’t just about modernizing the tools civil servants use, but reshaping the entire way public service functions.

In April 2024, the government gathered 120 researchers, startups, and innovators to begin forming a cohesive national AI framework. They have set ambitious targets, including creating 50,000 AI-related jobs by 2030 and catalyzing a domestic AI talent pipeline with initiatives like the AI-Expertise and Blockchain Training program in Jigawa, launched in mid-2024, highlighting that this is just one step on the broad tech revolution in Nigeria.

More than a technology, Service-Wise GPT represents a broader shift, a quiet revolution towards governance that’s more responsive, ethical, and attuned to the realities of 21st-century Nigeria. It is a promising bridge between bureaucratic inertia and a future where public servants are empowered to deliver better, faster, and with greater clarity.
